Philadelphia Whitemarsh Rugby Football Club has a proud history of getting behind important causes. Fight MS is no different. The club stands to benefit from this if the boys choose to designate it, but it will be the event that benefits from the club through participation and volunteers. We're counting on the boys to come out and support the cause and we're usually not disappointed.
Philadelphia Whitemarsh R.F.C: The spring of 1985 brought the merger of the two clubs. Both clubs were seeing a decline in membership with Philadelphia having a secure pitch in Fairmount Park and Whitemarsh having a clubhouse with a club liquor license in Conshohocken and a dedicated coach in George Betzler. The decision was made!
The officers of both clubs ran the club for the first year and Whitemarsh President, Steve Love made great strides in getting the new club organized. The club colors became red with two one inch blue stripes with the Liberty Bell from Philadelphia RFC and the Whitemarsh wallaby combined for the club logo.
But it's the original clubs we often forget, Philadelphia RFC founded in 1961 is the ol' original and Whitemarsh '67, a bit of a Philly off-shoot that rose to prominence in the early 70s and eventually finally defeated their cross-town rivals before that decade ended. Philly Whitemarsh is the merger of two great Philly-based Rugby clubs that became the one club we know today.
